Day 1 - John O'Groats to Lairg

Riders and drivers assembled after early porridge and set off for the John O'Groats JoGLE launch. At the most northerly point of Scotland, SJB Chaplin Michele Harrison's blessing and Gaelic prayer resulted in a moving send off in memory of Nick. 

Ani, Faith, Ev and Kate waved us as we set off for this 1000m adventure!

What a wonderful first day, riding through absolutely stunning Northern Scottish coastal countryside. 

   

The first 40k seemed to fly by with us all enjoying some kind of false sense of security at this great challenge we had signed up to. Then the hills started to roll in and the legs got a bit heavier. But as the landscape loomed up in front of us with lochs, ocean and mountains, we were swept away with the beauty, moment and pleasure to be doing this ride. 

7 hours later we flopped / settled in the beautiful Cask Inn for teas, stretches, (some) beers, a three course meal and some well earned rest. Day 1 done. And the fundraising page is buzzing!  Thank you everyone - far and wide!
